Feeling Inspired: Songs for Positivity and Encouragement, Part I

Feeling Inspired: Songs for Positivity and Encouragement, Part I

So…there is a lot going on in the world. Covid, politics, and the various effects of both are at the center of a lot of our lives right now. On top of that, most of us are still just trying to live our lives. We have jobs and careers, various relationships, personal goals, etc. that we are trying to navigate while simultaneously striving to remain healthy in the midst of a pandemic. It’s a lot! Music has been my saving grace throughout this past year. Well, it always has been, but even more so in this era of Covid. Music was my company and joy during those first weeks of lockdown last spring, and it has continued to be my solace and source of motivation since resuming virtual teaching in the fall.

This entry will hopefully inspire you in one way or another. It focuses on songs that inspire me, lift my spirits when I am down, and just make me feel good! I’m sure everyone has at least one song that makes them feel better. It can be inspiring in that it makes you want to get up and make a difference, or simply have the ability to put a smile on your face. For me, there are several songs like this, and they run the gamut of gospel, R&B, pop, funk, and hip-hop. I have had a couple days recently where I really needed them, which is why I decided to write this entry today. There are a lot of songs, so I’ll write different entries as I’m moved to. This entry will be Part I.

Enjoy! And remember, everything’s gonna be alright. 🙂 (I’m saying this to myself as well!)

“Stand” by Sly & the Family Stone. Key Lyric: There’s a cross for you to bear, things to go through if you’re going anywhere
“Let’s Go Crazy” by Prince Key Lyric: And if the elevator tries to bring you down, go crazy…punch a higher floor
“Higher Ground” by Stevie Wonder Key Lyric: Don’t you let nobody bring you down…they’ll sho‘nuff try, but God is gonna show you higher ground
“Optimistic” by Sounds of Blackness Key Lyric: As long as you keep your head to the sky, you can win…be optimistic
“On Your Face” by Earth, Wind & Fire
Key Lyrics: Now a frown will bring your spirits down to the ground
And never let you see the good things all around…

…While you run your race, keep a smiling face
Help you set your pace

I will stop at those five songs for this entry, and write Part II later this week. I’m holding myself to it! I hope that these helped you in some way, whether it was helping you rethink something, putting a smile on your face, or instilling some positive energy.

Until next time!
